Small Update...

I haven't posted anything here or any of blogs I own in a while... I'll be back with something soon. I hate neglecting these things.

Babes and Martians!

Hey gang,

I've been working on this on and off. This was inspired by Dean
Yeagle and Frank Cho--mainly Cho. I think I found my calling with the
whole Monsters and Babes shtick. I always loved that kind of stuff.
Cave Woman, Shanna The She-Devil, you name it. I'd love to do an entire art book on this.

This piece was
also brought on by something that's been on my mind lately. I was
recently in talks for a commission and the potential client warned me
that it had a lot sexual content. At first, I went with it, but as he
went on, the project was going a bit too far for my taste, so I
declined. It sucks because I hate turning down money, but there was definitely some hardcore shit that I couldn't fathom drawing. So, I felt the need to draw something fun. This is somewhat
sexual, but it's all in good fun. I can turn it up a notch or two, but
my new rule is that I won't do anything Adam Hughes or Frank Cho
wouldn't do. As long as it's fun, I'm in.

Rape scenes and bondage are a no-no for me. I can do whips and chains, but as soon as it crosses over the line of fun and into the realm of...I don't know... You get the idea.

I really messed up
the inks, but thank God for Photoshop. It turned a nightmare into a
happy ending...sort of. It could be a lot better. The pens I brought
from
Blick were crappy. Stay away from Itoya's Finepoint System. Any
recommendations for inks will greatly be appreciated.

Cheers,

Kenny

New Layout...

Hey peeps,

How do you like the new look? This is basic as hell, but I like it better than the old one. I used to play around and create my own layouts, but I guess I've grown lazy over the years.

I'll be back with some art later.

Cheers,

Kenny

Wolverine Line up

Striffle on deviantART.com hosted a one character line-up for the month of May. In celebration of the movie, Wolverine was the subject. It didn't take too long to create and I patted myself on the back for the ink job. It's been a while since I inked by hand, you know? My entry is on the bottom, under my deviantART user name, "Midnighter".

There's a handful of artist on there you definitely want to check out.My personal faves are Dan Schkade and
Bratty Ben. Although his Wolverine entry wasn't his best work, Dan is a busy man making his comic, The Private Files of The Fowl. The excellent writing and art is inspired by the noir and crime dramas and Dan knows how to tell a story. He's a pro among the amateurs, which makes my visits to deviantART a treat. Bratty Ben, also known as Ben Perkins, is a master in the works. His sequential art is top-notch. He's great with pacing and he doesn't forget the little things. Look at the cat, for instance. The man knows how to tell the story.

SONJA!

I entered a contest over at deviantART a few months ago. Sadly, I dropped out of it due to pursuing work that could fill my wallet, if you know what I mean? It was fun while it lasted. I usually don't do sequential work, so it was a nice change for me. Sonja is a character I helped developed with my brother, Josh. She's one-half of a mercenary duo known as the Massacre Twins. I wrote a brief description on the reference sheet.

Sonja reference sheet

The reference sheet pretty much has everything you need for the character. Personality wise, she's like a blend of bubbly and psychotic. I guess you can compare her to Tira (Soul Calibur) or Harley Quinn (Batman: The Animated Series) if that helps. She suffered a lot of trauma in her childhood along with her identical twin sister, Sonya. Each adapted to the abuse in different ways. Sonya toughened up and became cold hearted while Sonja, to a certain extent, went crazy.

For the contest, all contestants had to draw an invite page, displaying that their original character accepts the invitation into the fight tournament. It was fun for me because, at the time, it was a long time since I drew any panels for a story. I never considered myself to be good at it, mainly due to the word balloons. Fortunately during the course of the tournament, the word balloons get better.

Time was a major factor into making these pages, so I skipped the colors and just settled for black and white. The first Round's location was in a jungle. Sonja's opponent had Superman-like powers, but his description didn't mention anything about invulnerability, so she had to win on random luck. A snake bite to the sacks did the job. After all, it was the jungle.

Round 2 was set in "My City Screams", probably in reference to the Spirit, but any city with buildings worked according to the rules. I used stock photos for the buildings.

AFL - Round 2

Round 3 was set in Cartoon Land, so I pulled out my animation style. Since I'm developing a cartoon to pitch to major studios like Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, I decided Sonja should be transformed into a cartoon. There is a reason why she's harming the spoon. Her opponent carries a giant spoon as a weapon and used it a lot in his previous rounds. Sonja, being the opportunist, decided to disarm him and go to town on his most prized possession. Her dialog was inspired by the Hulk Vs Thor DVD.

AFL - Round 3

I like his response to my entry:

Like I said before, it was fun while it lasted, but I had to pursue paying work. As fun as AFL was, my pockets were empty and the way the economy is, I couldn't stay. Maybe one of these days, I'll color the black & white pages. I do know for a fact that I'll kick out some more Sonja art. Hell, I'll draw some Massacre Twins art soon.

Cheers,

Empty...

Man, I haven't posted here in a long time. I guess this place is mainly for folks who have some sort of fan following. Not as simple as Myspace or Xanga. At least I know where to run when I need privacy, being that no one visits these parts. Heh.

There's a lack of community on here.

When I get money, I'll be sure to invest in my own "dot com" or something.
